The AI startup founded by former OpenAI CTO Mira Murati, has closed a massive $2 billion funding round at a $12 billion valuation, making it one of the most significant early-stage investments in AI history. The round was led by Andreessen Horowitz and saw participation from major tech players including NVIDIA, Accel, Cisco, and AMD.
The lab is focused on building "agentic AI," which involves creating intelligent systems capable of multi-step reasoning and taking autonomous actions to complete complex tasks. Murati stated the company's goal is to advance "collaborative general intelligence," emphasizing multimodal AI that can interact naturally with people through conversation and sight. Announcing the funding, Murati said, "We're excited that in the next couple months we will be able to share our first product, which will include a significant open source component and be useful for researchers and startups developing custom model".
This massive funding round, co-led by Google Ventures and Kleiner Perkins, demonstrates the immense investor confidence in specialized AI applications.
OpenEvidence is rapidly becoming a critical tool for physicians, showing how AI can be applied vertically to transform major industries like healthcare by providing real-time, evidence-based medical information at the point of care.
